Gangnam Style Dance-Off Leads to Gang Shootout in Bangkok
What started as an apparent dance-off turned into a dangerous gunfight

The most liked YouTube video of all-time, the contagious Gangnam Style dance, took a dangerous turn this week, resulting in a shootout in Bangkok, Thailand. According to the Independent News Network, while in a restaurant, a pair of rival gangs began with a dance-off and ended with a gun attack.

First, younger members of the groups danced towards each other in Gangnam Style, then, an argument broke out between the gangs. The squabble turned into a gun attack in which one of the gangs fired at least 50 shots.

No one was injured; however, vehicles surrounding the scene were damaged.

The two gangs have a history of violence, police Lieutenant Apichart Thongchandee told the Bangkok Post.

This event, along with the reported more than 1,000 cases of student rivalry within the first half of 2012, has sparked debate over gang violence in Thailand.

Currently, authorities in Thailand send repeat offenders to an army-style boot camp where they must perform fitness drills alongside their rivals.
