We’re all partial to a couple of beers once in a while, but it seems that a large chunk of the American population are more interested in Edward Fortyhandsing Olde English than having a couple of pints at the pub and heading home. In short, binge drinking rates among adults are higher than you’d think.
The most startling facts, from a study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, are as follows:
– Binge drinking is most common among those who voted for Obama in 2008 (the liberal states).
– The more Northern states, particularly in central and Eastern US have the highest percentages of binge drinkers, at 18.7%-25.6%.
– Those most likely to binge drink come from the lowest economic bracket (those who make under $25,000 per year) and the highest (those who make over $75,000 per year).
