When it was discovered that Lululemon’s iconic yoga pants were too revealing, they were quickly removed from stores, and thus began the potential shortage of (Lululemon) yoga pants for the entire world. What made these pants too revealing, considering the fact they are supposed to be skin-tight? The Luon material of the garments was too sheer, and many of us know what that means for the poor (or lucky) soul behind us in yoga class as we bend down into downward dog — the rest of you may imagine the outcome (hint: full monty meets the yoga studio).
It comes as a surprise that the Luon fabric has been manufactured too sheer, since Lululemon has not switched factories since 2004 when the company expanded production beyond Canada. Speculations of inadequate supervision of quality control have been cited as the reason for the subpar material, but Lululemon Athletica has yet to comment on that fact.
Now the kicker to an already sad tale: the lack of supply in these yoga pants — which comprises 17% of all women’s pants and crop bottoms in Lululemon stores — is causing the company’s shares to plunge. As of today, stock in Lululemon Athletica has dropped 4.8%, which is due to the financial hit the brand is expected to take with its now diminished inventory. And if you’ve recently bought a pair of these too-revealing pants, head back to your local Lululemon where you can have your pick of a full refund or exchange. Or keep ’em for sexy yoga times at home (that’s a thing, right?)
