In the midst of Toronto’s mayoral woes, it’s refreshing to know that somehow, somewhere, there are other cities in the world bilssfully satisfied with their elected mayor. That’s where Robert “Bobby” Tufts comes in, who’s favored to win in the upcoming August 4th election to serve for a second term. Did I mention he’s only four-years-old?
The town of Dorset, Minnesota hosts its election in a raffle during its annual Taste of Dorset Festival for $1 per vote. The current mayor then pulls a name from the box, revealing which of the town’s 22-28 residents (depending on who you ask) will reign over “the Restaurant Capital of the World.”
In hopes of a second term in office, Tufts’ recent campaign involved a sending out a card to each resident in town, reading: “I would love to be your Mayor as much as I love Sophie,” his girlfriend. The first item on Bobby’s (probably double-spaced) agenda is to put ice cream on top of the food pyramid. He is, after all, a long time fan. “Chocolate. And vanilla. Strawberry. Cotton candy kind. And rainbow sherbet,” said the mayor.
His mother Emma Tufts has nothing but high praise for her son, claiming, “He’s been pretty good. Lotta PR for the town.”
