The Mars One Project is giving earthlings the chance to start a new life on the Red Planet, but there’s just one catch: it’s a one-way ticket trip. The $6-billion project aims to establish a small settlement on Mars by 2023. Most of the funding will be raised by what the Mars One Group calls “an on-going, global media event” showcasing the martian astronauts’ experiences.
And if all of that didn’t sound sci-fi enough, the colony is going to be built by robots.
So far, about 80,000 would-be astronauts have applied worldwide, 35 Canadians among them.
