The 8mm Vintage Film Camera App
Move Over Harmony Korine

With Hipstamatic and Instagram, we’ve seen the transformative things the iPhone can do with a good camera filter, taking the ease of unique photographic production to the next digital plateau. Apps like this mean you never have to worry about lugging around a heavy camera frame, lens, and film for everyday snapshots. Now, video app makers Nexvio have come up with their own version of an old-fashioned lens filter service, which turns your iPad or iPhone into an 8mm video camera. Unlike other vintage-inspired photography and film apps, 8mm Vintage Camera comes fully outfitted with a bundle that gives you a series of lenses (Super 8, Clear, Flickering Frame, Spotlight, Light Leak, and Colour Fringing) and some appropriately distorted film types (1920, Noir, 60s, 70s, Sakura, XPro, and Siena). For an even more authentic experience, they’ve included an old-school microphone filter, as well as a flickering frame option, which allows your film to include classic projector era frame screw-ups. Really, it’s everything you could ask for from a small vintage camera app. (Appropriate-era facial hair not included.) 8mm Vintage Camera App is available from the app store for iPod Touch, iPhone and iPad. $1.99.
