Anna Wintour of Vogue has combined politics and fashion in her project titled Runway to Win. The collection features limited edition pieces from Diane von Furstenberg, Vera Wang, Derek Lam, Prabal Gurang, Alexander Wang, Narcisco Rodriguez, Marc Jacobs and Tory Burch. Many celebrities like Beyonce, Sarah Jessica Parker and Ricky Martin have also contributed to the collection by designing t-shirts, backpacks and baby onesies. All of the clothing and accessories are available online with proceeds benefiting the Obama Victory Fund. The fundraising initiative has recently been brought into the limelight after coming back for its 4th year.
At a Runway to Win event earlier this year Wintour spoke out about the importance of the fashion industry,
“Perhaps I should mention that the enormous interest from the public in this challenge is indicative to me of just how much fashion means to so many people from all walks of life. It’s also a global business worth $20 billion to the economy, and one that employs 4 million people. We are enormously lucky to have a president and a first lady who are so supportive of our industry.”
Prabal Gurang noted, “My focus is right now on the positive of the campaign, which is to make sure that my support for the president is full, 100 percent. Because my belief is, if I’m going to complain about the lack of change in America and the economy, I need to be part of it.”
