Take a walk, Central Park – It’s possible that Toronto’s popular Trinity Bellwoods Park is getting it very own urban lake. The proposal is being floated by Distl, a new creative intelligence studio based in the city.
According to a press release, the idea came about during the recent flooding in which the previously tranquil Garrison Creek re-emerged as a healthy river, flooding the small valley in the park known as “the dog bowl.” The displaced pooches would have a new contained area of the park to roam off-leash, sniff around, and do whatever dogs do.
The release goes on to outline the benefits of the lake, which “would cover approximately 3.8 hectares and provide a range of new recreational activities for visitors. The edge of the lake has been imagined as new natural habitats for local aquatic and amphibious species, as well as for birds and small mammals. Key access points for those wishing to use the lake would prevent degradation of these areas. Access to the lake may include boardwalks and docks, with opportunities for the City of Toronto to operate a paddle and row boat rental service. Adventurous children may brave a jump into the lake itself, with some areas providing greater accessible for those wishing to take the plunge.”
