Spring is the best time for sports, office pools and fantasy leagues. Things kick off with the NCAAʼs March Madness tournament, followed up by the NHL Playoffs and the NBA Playoffs. Throw in the start of the Major League Baseball season and the sports scene can fill your schedule up pretty quickly.

How do you keep track of all these sports without going crazy, and especially if youʼve wagered a dollar or two in a few different office pools and fantasy leagues? Say hello to the ScoreMobile app.

While The Score may be the lesser known of the main sports networks in the Toronto area, theyʼve made a pretty good app. Available for BlackBerry, iPhone and Android, what I really like about this app is its simplicity and the depth of its coverage. There are very few apps that can track a variety of different sports like the ScoreMobile app can, and all in real-time. If youʼre not near a television, the in-game real-time tracker is valuable.

What I first noticed is how easy it is to switch between sports to find news and scores. On the left side is a menu that users can scroll through to pull up a number of different sports. Aside from the major sports, users can find information on English Premier League, Champions League and Major League Soccer, Mixed Martial Arts, Formula One and NASCAR. Other leagues available in this app include Serie A and La Liga soccer, the Canadian Football League, ATP and WTA tennis. Users can track specific games by marking them as favourites. This can help cut down on the multitude of scores to a manageable amount, depending on the sports youʼre tracking and the pool youʼre in.

Where the app adds even more value is with the ability to watch clips, read news and track blogs and social media feeds. The blogs feature is pretty neat but leaves a bit to be desired. Much like an in-game blog with reporters on media sites like the Toronto Star and the Globe and Mail, the ScoreMobile app features live blogging and chats during games with other fans. Some live-blogs may only feature tweets which can be frustrating, especially if you want to ask questions and enjoy that interaction. I donʼt think users want to rely on the twitterverse to provide insights and answers. In addition, if youʼre looking to find stats on your favourite teamʼs players, and they arenʼt in the top-20 in league statistics, youʼll need to find this information elsewhere.

Compared to the other sports networks in Toronto, I think if youʼre looking for a comprehensive app that covers a variety of sports, not just hockey, you canʼt go wrong with the ScoreMobile app. This free app has a lot to offer for those who live, breathe and die sports. Itʼs worth taking a look at.
