App of the Week — OpenTable
Summerlicious ends this weekend. Use the OpenTable app for last minute reservations

Looking for that last minute reservation for dinner with your friends, family, or a hot date?
If you find yourself constantly on the go and unable to plan ahead, you should consider OpenTable to help you find the perfect place to share a meal with old (and new) friends.

Opentable, a free app available for Android, BlackBerry, iOS and Windows Phone, allows you to easily search for restaurant reservations across the city and book a table without having to call ahead.

The selection of restaurants found on this app is pretty good. You should be able to find many restaurants across the city and the GTA. The downside to this app is that restaurants need to sign up to participate in the OpenTable program, so there is a chance your favourite restaurant, or other popular places, may not appear on the list. This can be frustrating, especially when popular events like Summerlicious are on in the city.

The search function could be improved. When initially searching for restaurants, the search is very vague with the inability to narrow down options until after the initial search is done. This makes it difficult to find specific restaurants in a specific part of the city.

The restaurant profiles show you the next available reservation times, the menu and user submitted reviews. This is very helpful. User reviews are generated Opentable account users, but at least you can take a look and read comments before making your reservation. This is always a good thing.

A few other notable features include the ability to find a restaurant using Google maps or similar programs, a history of your recent restaurant searchers and the ability to search restaurants in other cities, perfect if you are planning a trip.

Opentable account holders can collect OpenTable points for “Dining Cheques,” which is like a coupon for your next meal redeemable at participating restaurants. This perk is great if you eat out a lot or if you are traveling as it can help you save a few dollars while on vacation.

If you dread calling and making a reservation, especially for a group of people, or need to book something last minute, OpenTable has you covered. Book a table without making a call. Reservations cannot be made any easier than this. Next time you are out and want to find a place to eat, give OpenTable a try and see what you can find. Bon appetite!
