Popular online porn site, YouPorn, announced Thursday that emails and passwords for more than one million users were released online. Oops? So much for privacy.
A third-party contractor who provides the site’s chat service failed to adequately protect the user data. This once-coveted private list of account information is now exposed online, and while it revealed no embarrassing .gov email addresses, plenty were revealed to be, well, YouPorn subscribers.
Thankfully, while the sexual proclivities of these users was not revealed alongside their passwords, you can be sure they are all red in the face. Of the list of accounts, approximately every 15 names used “password” as a password. Classic mistake.
A YouPorn spokesperson released a statement to reassure its humiliated users, saying the website, “continues to ensure that all appropriate measures and tools are in place to maintain the security of its infrastructure, and to safeguard the privacy of its users.”
So, relax. Sure, your horny subscription might be exposed to anyone who knows how to Google, but at least nobody can see what you were looking at. Yet.
