Dept of Want: Bicycle Rearview Camera
A new device offers the perfect safety solution for city cyclists

Cyclists in Toronto have a lot to contend with; streetcars, pedestrians and hot-headed taxi-drivers, to name a few. So, any piece of technology that makes a bikers life easier is fine by us.

The Bicycle Rearview Camera, pictured above, does just that. By sending a live feed of whatever is behind you (whether it be a raging bull or a 50-foot truck), so that you can keep focused on what’s in front and to the sides.

Available on Hammacher Schlemmer, the device comes in two parts. The camera fixes to the seat post, while the colour monitor is mounted on the handlebars. Weather- and vibration-resistent, it sports red LEDs that flash when the camera’s built-in sensor detects low-light conditions for visibility to traffic. It costs $179, and the battery in the monitor should last for up to 10 hours on a two-hour charge.

Considering that many drivers often neglect the fact that they share the road with cyclists, we reckon that this is a worthwhile buy for any city biker.
