A series of mini-dramas based on public conversations, as overheard and rewritten by local playwright/director Aurora Stewart de Peña.
Overheard at the Drake Hotel Lounge
Paolo, Mike and Elena, all in their early thirties and casually dressed in clothing made of high quality fabrics, put their coats on after paying the bill for brunch.
It was Mike’s treat.
Paolo: Yo, thanks buddy.
Mike: No problem, it’s good to see you.
Paolo: It’s been too long.
Mike: I know, Man, I know.
Elena: I feel disgusting.
Paolo: What?
Mike: What’s wrong?
Elena: I just–I ate way too much.
Mike: We all did, that’s the point.
Paolo: That’s brunch, baby.
Elena: Did you guys see how much I ate?
I ate, like, way more than you guys.
Mike: Well, we had pancakes.
Paolo: And bacon!
Elena: I had, like, two poached eggs, and that whole big thing of salad.
Paolo: That’s an overwhelmingly regular amount of food.
Elena: I feel gross.
Paolo: I think you need to look into that.
