You Can Ring My Bell
Danish bike designers Sgreni and their minimalist bike bell.

The Danes are fantastic designers and they adore their bikes, which is easy to understand considering their country is as flat as an airfield. Cycle maker Sren Sgreni established his self-named firm in 1981 and was recognized for his contribution to Danish design in 2002 when he was nominated as Danish designer of the year. Sgreni is now one of Denmark’s more bespoke bike brands, known for innovation and design that combines cutting-edge materials with old-school charm. The company recently expanded into bike accessories and have produced a line of one-of-a-kind bike bells made from a disk of brass, steel, zinc or copper, each emiting its own distinctive ring. An instant design classic, sales have extended way beyond bike shops into art museums and design shops. Measuring between 26 and 28 mm to fit around most bicycle head tubes, each bell comes with all the required fittings and guaranteed to last many a ring. Available from MJLK, 2959 Dundas St W., $55.
