The continued coverage of the shooting death of Trayvon Martin has been on my mind recently. It’s obvious that what occurred and the inappropriate amount of time taken to finally prosecute Martin’s shooter was serious, and proves, yet again, that America’s more fucked up than we thought. While Obama’s comment was definitely bold, it gave the story important exposure, pushing the national media to speak about what the heck happened with this case and why it was approached in such a wishy-washy way.
AND in a shocking turn that had sartorial specialists reeling, Geraldo Rivera recently [no surprise here] put his foot in his mouth about the debacle, saying on Twitter that Martin’s death was related to the fact that he was wearing a hoodie. According to the Vancouver Sun, he relayed on Fox News that “When you see a black or Latino youngster on the street, you walk to the other side of the street. You try to avoid that confrontation. . .Trayvon Martin, God bless him, innocent kid, a wonderful kid, a box of skittles in his hand, he didn’t deserve to die. . .But I bet you money, if he didn’t have that hoodie on, that nutty neighborhood watch guy wouldn’t have responded in that violent and aggressive way.”
In other news, Geraldo Rivera got beat up in the ‘hood because he had a moustache and looked like a “fag.” You heard it here folks, all because of a moustache. If it did happen, that’d pretty much be the same reasoning.
Thank the lord that Tumblr’s so quick on the uptake, because there’s already a Tumblog featuring images of Geraldo wearing what appears to be a hoodie… We get it, apparently when black or latino kids dress like thugs, are thugs. And if I wear a short skirt, I probably deserve to get raped. Blah, blah, blah.
If you’ve got any screen caps of Geraldo wearing a hoodie, make sure you submit them.
