Real Estate is a hot topic in this town, and while there are so many jokes to be made about Lambs who sell condos, there is just as much comedic fodder in real estate failure. Buyer’s Market is a hilarious short film released on YouTube today (it’s previously been shown at the Just For Laughs Film Fest, Calgary International Film Find and the Worldwide Short Film Fest). It tells the story of John Phelleps, a plucky realtor who can’t catch a break, trying to sell a house that just shouldn’t be that hard to sell.
If the familiar streetscape and Ontario license plates weren’t a dead give away, Buyer’s Market was filmed in Toronto and is loaded with local talent. It stars James Hartnett, a veteran of YTV’s That’s So Weird, and is directed by Nathan Fielder, who is presently making waves stateside with his uproarious Comedy Central series Nathan For You. The cast also features Kathleen Phillips (a former Toronto Standard contributor), Aaron Eves, Sarah Hillier and Tim Polley, who co-wrote the screenplay with Hartnett.
