Corporate marketer by day and culinary historian by night, Pamela Foster of Burlington, Ontario has released an Edwardian cook-book geared towards fans of shows like Downton Abbey. Abbey Cooks Entertain features 220 recipes commonly cooked for the upper echelons of society during the Edwardian period (1901-1910) and slightly beyond, an era in which “food became so important because it was a way to show off your wealth.”
Researched and tested by Foster in her own kitchen, the book began as a blog, Downton Abbey Cooks, chronicling foods of the era, and those featured on the show, but with a modern healthy twist. Recipes have included Plum Pudding, Kidney Soufflé, and Cock-a-Leekie soup. The cookbook itself features not only recipes but historical context and Downton Abbey facts, as well as hosting guides for cocktail parties and afternoon tea–everything a very dignified hostess might need for a night in.
