This week’s bad news: there is no Ariel. This week’s good news: you can still be Cinderella. High-end shoe designer Christian Louboutin revealed his much-anticipated Cinderella slipper at a soiree Wednesday night during Couture Fashion Week.
Louboutin spoke to challenges designing the shoe. “You imagine it being completely transparent, (made) out of glass,” Louboutin says. ” [But] full and classical transparency made into a shoe makes a really ugly foot.”
Instead, Louboutin used lace to give the illusion of transparency, paired with a glittering, Swarovski-crystal-covered heel. He then added butterflies, because who doesn’t like butterflies? And, of course, a signature red sole.
Though Louboutin’s slipper will not be produced for mass sale, 20 pairs will be given away worldwide this fall, turning “anyone into modern-day Cinderellas.”
Disney reached out to the popular designer in advance of Cinderella‘s Blu-ray release on October 2, 2012.
