Every time you hail a taxi, you expect the driver to get you safely to your destination, but how much do you really know about those entrusted with taking you from point A to B?
Well, thanks to a new posting on the City of Toronto’s website, information on cab and tow truck drivers convicted of felonies like sexual assault, as well other crimes and Highway Traffic Act violations are now public.
The posting provides the details surrounding last year’s Toronto Licensing Tribunal contested hearings and shows why drivers’ requests for license renewals were declined. Information on 2013 hearings is expected to appear online this summer. Currently, tribunal hearing records before 2012 are still private.
The public release of the information comes in the wake of a Toronto Star investigation from earlier this year that found convicted criminals were able to stay behind the wheel because of lax licensing regulations.
