Yes, we had a four-day week. No, that doesn’t mean we aren’t any less thrilled about the arrival of the weekend. Toronto Standard has picked out your weekend highlights so you don’t have to. 

A is for Architecture:

Come in from Friday’s cold to the 14th annual Doors Open Festival, where Toronto opens the gates to 150 architecturally, historically, and culturally hot spaces. This year celebrates the city’s imagination with the theme Creators, Makers, and Innovators.

When: Saturday, May 25 and Sunday, May 26

Where: All over TO. Find a door near you!

How Much: Free! 
 

B is for Barbecue: 

 
Hungry? Come to the Great Lakes Charity BBQ for delicious barbecue food, soft drinks, live entertainment, and lots of Great Lakes Beer. Telus employees will be volunteering their time for the event as part of the Telus Day of Giving.

When: Saturday, May 25; 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Where: Great Lakes Brewery, 30 Queen Elizabeth Blvd in Etobicoke

How Much: How generous are you? All proceeds from the day’s sales at the BBQ and LCBO go to benefit the Franklin Horner Community Centre in Etobicoke!  

 

C is for Comics: Romi-con

With great cities come great responsibility – and this week, Friday Night Live at the ROM celebrates comics romics. Come in costume for a retrospective of super heroes, free lessons in designing your own comic, and live improv from Second City. The event is 19-plus.

When: Friday May 24; 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Where: Royal Ontario Museum

How much: Adults: $12, Students: $10, Members: Free!  

 

F is for Film Fest: LGBT Film Festival

Inside Out’s LGBT Film Festival opens this weekend at the Lightbox, and we’re pumped to check out a lineup of shorts, features, and docs. Catch a movie or attend one of the launch events! BTW: Check out our top picks

When: Thursday, May 23rd to June 2

Where: Films are at the TIFF Bell Lightbox and events are all over town. Check out party venues here.

How Much: $6-$13 for tickets!
