There was once a time when a bad review from a fashion editor could make or break a designer’s reputation, and not being mentioned at all was akin to an industry-wide condemnation. Famous editors like Diana Vreeland, Joan Fairchild, and Lynn Yaeger were responsible for opening the closed-door industry to the public in a time when there was virtually no press surrounding the hyper-exclusive fashion industry.
Tim Blanks, the wonderfuly effevescent former host of CBC’s Fashion Files and current editor of Style.com is being honoured at tomorrow’s Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Awards with the annual Media Award for his fabulous contributions to industry journalism. Widely recognized for his knowledgable, thoughtful prose on industry happenings, Blanks has been a mainstay of the industry since bringing fashion to the remote regions of Canada on Fashion Files. Since then, he’s moved on to Style.com, where he covers the international fashion circuit from New York to London to Milan to Paris.
