In a move that shows how very generous family law is to the ex-spouses of Canadian multi-millionaires, a judge has overturned the Michael and Christine McCain’s original divorce agreement and ordered the Maple Leaf Foods CEO to pay a whopping $175,000 a month in spousal support to his former wife.
When the couple parted ways in 2011 after 30 years of marriage, Christine was granted a couple properties and a lump sum of $5 million. Compared to Michael McCain’s net fortune of $500 million, this might seem stingy, but to us layfolk, the new arrangement – coming in at 2.1 million a year – seems exorbitant.
So what could the former Ms. McCain spend all this dough on anyways? Well it’s certain a leg up on the $13,000 a month shopping allowance she had during the couple’s marriage. The new monthly funds could see her buying up to 43 pairs of Christian Louboutin’s “Very Riche” open toe pumps per month, or spending every night of the month in The Hazelton Hotels Presidential suite for a cool $5500 a night.
What would you spend it on?
