Oprah Winfrey is touring Canada and the man who gets to pick her brain is bad-boy of the CBC, George Stroumboulopoulos. During her Canadian tour, Winfrey is stopping for shows in Edmonton, Calgary, and Vancouver, each of which will feature a one-on-one interview conducted by Stroumboulopoulos. Producers of the Oprah tour at tinePublic Inc. in Calgary believe Stroumboulopoulos to be one of the best, if not the best interviewer in Canada and wanted to bring his “hip, younger feel” to the shows.
Stroumboulopoulos says he’s excited for his interviews with the famous interviewer since he’ll be talking to someone who knows how it’s done, and therefore knows what kinds of answers will give him the most to work with. As for the topic of conversation, Stroumboulopolous is ready for anything, but wants to focus on how Winfrey has used her power to help others. In fact, he hopes to extend Winfrey’s empathy with his interviews by giving the audience an opportunity to see themselves within her stories and struggles and finding inspiration and intrigue within them.
These shows come right after Winfrey’s interview with Lance Armstrong in which he confessed to using performance-enhancing drugs, so her and Stroumboulopoulos may have more to talk about than initially anticipated. “It’s going to be fun man. I’m looking forward to it,” said Stroumboulopoulos. Unfortunately for those of us who can’t make the shows out West, these interviews will not be aired on television or online.
