LISTEN: First Episode of the Comedy Bar Comedy Podcast
"I've never heard a podcast before... All I know is I don't want mine to be like anyone else's"

When Comedy Bar opened on Bloor Street West in 2008, it was envisioned as a place for comedians to hang out, develop new comedy ideas and forms, and have fun making people laugh. Now, Gary Rideout Jr. and company are carrying on that mission with Comedy Bar Comedy Podcast, which premiered last night. Claiming he has never listened to another podcast before, Rideout Jr. is joined by fellow Sketchersons co-founders Pat Thornton and Tal Zimerman to talk about silly ideas, make up lies and goof around with microphones for 45 minutes. The first episode, recorded earlier this month, features characters named Dum Dum and Tum Tum, a review of the trailer for Iron Man 3, and a “promotional stunt” with correspondent Inessa Frantowski and a bear wearing a CBCP t-shirt that *SPOILER* fails to generate much interest in the podcast. It’s very loose and very funny.

“We’re figuring it out as we go,” says Rideout Jr. “So we want people to stick with us through the early episodes and send us feedback on what works and what doesn’t, we’ll gravitate towards what works as we establish more recurring bits in the episodes. I’d like it to be a real forum for trying premises and also for just saying things like ‘shamps banan.'”

The second episode of the weekly show is already in the can and will debut next week. If nothing else, at least listen for Tim Gilbert’s brilliant theme song.

You can subscribe to Comedy Bar Comedy Podcast on iTunes or watch a taping live at Comedy Bar (945 Bloor Street W.) on Thursday nights at 11pm.
