Yesterday, many were left wondering why Clayton Ruby and his client aren’t paying Ford’s legal bills. Today, Ford proved yet again that he has nothing but good intentions for constituents.
Etobicoke’s Humber Town Shopping Centre is in the initial stages of a potential conversion into a mixed-use condo development. The plans include the creation of five buildings, the tallest of which would hover over the neighborhood at 12 storeys. The landowners First Capital Reality are facing a lot of adversity from residents of the area, as The Etobicoke York Community Council (EYCC) voted unanimously against the project. In order to evade accusations of NIMBYism, the council has put forward their own proposition for the land’s redevelopment:
First Capital Reality: 604 residential units: 576 condos and 28 townhouses
EYCC: 202 residential units: 158 condos and 44 townhouses.
Among the supporters for the EYCC is Mayor Ford, a resident of the area, who came to the defense of the council: “This isn’t downtown, this Etobicoke… personally, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with Humbertown .… We cannot let these developers come in and bully us.”
