Harper and Merkel’s informal Gatineau, Que. dinner date
Prime Minister Stephen Harper and German Chancellor Angela Merkel will have an informal dinner date at Harper’s Harrington Lake retreat in Gatineau, Que. on Wednesday night.
According to CTVNews, the two will chat without aides and an agenda for at least two hours, perhaps longer. Merkel is in town for a more formal meeting with the PM on Thursday morning at Parliament Hill, where the leaders will discuss Canada’s proposed free-trade pact with the European Union.
The federal government predicts this free-trade pact with the 27-country bloc could provide an extra $12-billion to Canada’s economy, annually. Harper has already announced plans to sign a deal by the end of the year, and recently told reporters that talks with the EU have been advancing well.
McKayla is not impressed… With Letterman
Yes! McKayla Maroney and the rest of the ‘fierce (fab) five’ U.S. Olympic gymnastics team visited the Late Show with David Letterman on Tuesday night, but the 16-year-old Drake fan stole the show.
Appearing alongside her teammates Aly Raisman, Jordyn Wieber, Kyla Ross and Gabby Douglas, Entertainment Weekly reports Maroney stole the show with her sassy off-the-cuff remarks, and of course, that face.
When Letterman tried to make small-talk with the teens, and asked if the sparkly leotards were comfortable, Maroney answered, “SO comfortable?” Later, the two spoke about her namesake meme, photoshopping her “not impressed at earning the Olympic silver medal” face onto other impressive, or not impressive snapshots of pop culture lore.
“It is pretty funny,” said Maroney. Exactly, which is why it will never get old. For this week, anyway. Though Maroney has yet to sign onto a likely-to-be hilarious guest-starring role on a popular show, similar to her U.S. Olympic teammate Ryan Lochte, who just agreed to cameo on 90210, this is just the beginning of her saucy media debut.
