Toronto teachers wear this for Newtown victims

Toronto public elementary school teachers will wear black arm bands on Monday as a tribute to the victims of Friday’s Newton, Conn. mass shooting.

CityNews reports the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) sent a memo to itsToronto chapter members for plans on how to honour the students and teachers lost on Friday. Teachers across the province will also wear the arm bands, in a show of support.

Elementary Teachers of Toronto president Martin Long told CityNews that Toronto District School Board schools will be advised on how to appropriately respond to any student questions relating to the shooting.

The city’s schools will also hold a moment of silence at around 9 a.m.

Rogers stations support ‘Hug Your Kid Today’ campaign

But, ETFO and the Toronto District School Board are not the only institutions paying tribute to the victims of the Connecticut shooting.

Rogers and its media stations are supporting the ‘Hug Your Kid Today’ campaign, a movement to promote love and kindness between a parent and their children.

According to 680 News, a Rogers station, one of the tenets of this movement is for parents to know the importance of letting their children know they are loved, and to give them a big hug on Monday morning.

The campaign aims to see how many hugsCanadawill give in support of theNewtown,Conn.mass shooting.

Is this Gosling movie cursed?

On another note, is this Ryan Gosling movie cursed with bad timing?

‘Gangster Squad,’ a 30s-era mobster movie, has yet again been the victim of an unfortunately-timed partnership. The movie, which also stars Sean Penn, Emma Stone and Josh Brolin, is chock-full of gun violence, and aired its first commercial during an NFL game on Sunday, just two days after the Newtown, Conn. school massacre.

Football viewers reacted to the trailer unfavourably, taking to Twitter to write things like, “Not the best timing for that “Gangster Squad” commercial. Counted 11 guns throughout.”

The movie had already been delayed for reshoots after The Dark Night Rises shooting in Aurora, since one of its most prominent scenes involved its lead actors shooting up a movie theatre. That scene had to be re-shot, and the movie was delayed from a summer release — and its grisly, bloody trailer removed from being shown before the aforementioned Batman sequel — to a date of Jan. 11, 2013.

Will the movie be delayed again?
