Ikea monkey protest?
The Ikea monkey’s ‘mom’ is organizing a protest to try to get her ‘son,’ Darwin, back.
Upon discovering that opposing lawyers plan to ask for a case adjournment, the Toronto Star writes Yasmin Nakhuda will fight back.
Nakhuda’s lawsuit to getDarwinback will be heard in the Oshawa Superior Court on Thursday morning. If successful, she is looking to relocate to another township that allows monkeys to be kept as pets. However, the closest area isKawartha Lakes, which plans to introduce an anti-exotic pet motion in January.
After the Dec. 9 incident at a North York Ikea parking lot, Nakhuda claims she was forced to sign over her pet ownership rights to animal control.
With a possible case adjournment pending, the Toronto Star reports a protest against postponing Nakhuda’s case will be held outside the Toronto Animal Services’ office at1300 Sheppard Ave. W, at 4 p.m.
Harper saddened by NHL lockout
Prime Minister Stephen Harper told a French broadcaster he was saddened by the NHL lockout. Awwww.
The PM specifically spoke to his disappointment on behalf of the hockey players, fans and team owners, who the Canadian Press reports he said are in their position due to their love of the game.
Harper also expressed remorse towards seeing the Canadian pastime at risk of a permanent fracture in business and passion. Due to the lockout, regular season games have been cancelled until Dec. 30, for now.
Similar to most Canadians in hockey-related mourning, Harper plans to find consolation in the world junior hockey championship, which will start in Russia later this month.
Tom Cruise gets into a water fight
Who would win in a water fight between Tom Cruise and Jimmy Fallon? Well, you be the judge.
Cruise stopped by Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday, continuing his press tour for his new action film, Jack Reacher, which opens this Friday. In typical Fallon fashion, after their late night interview was over, the star and comic faced off in a party game — this time, it involved the card game ‘War’ … And a water fight.
Cruise showed off his trademark excitement and ear-to-ear grin upon beating Fallon in the first round, before giving him a splash from an adjacent water pitcher. However, when the tables turned, and he had to get wet due to a perhaps previously-unannounced ace-high rule, Cruise seemed momentarily disappointed, but it only fuelled his competitive fire.
In the end, Cruise got to blast Fallon with a Super Soaker-style watergun. Amazing.
