New TTC Rocket trains malfunctioning

The Toronto Transit Commission’s Rocket subway trains are consistently running late, and according to the Toronto Star, TTC boss Andy Byford is trying to find out why.

The Star reports many of the problems have involved malfunctioning doors. Byford met with Bombardier on Friday, the company that made the 27 TTC trains in question.

In a recent report, Byford wrote the current performance of the Rockets is “unacceptable.” A total of 70 Rocket set of trains, with six cars each, are scheduled to be put on TTC tracks by 2014. The estimated cost of this project is $500 to $600-million. Is it worth the wait?

Hamilton‘s pro-casino movie ads

The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Commission is running advertisements at Hamilton-area movie theatres.

The CBC reports the $164,000 campaign includes ads before movies acrossOntario, to promote the community value of OLG slots and casinos.

These OLG advertisements, ranging from two-minutes to 30-seconds in length, have featured case studies from Innisfil,Brantfordand a hospital in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.

LikeToronto,Hamiltonhas been debating whether it wants to welcome an OLG casino for the past year. Could OLG-centric ads be on its way toToronto?

Nicolas Cage vs.. Privacy?

Forget the Declaration of Independence, Nicolas Cage is fighting for his personal privacy.

The Academy Award-winning actor and his lawyers are looking to keep his deposition private in a lawsuit over a home sale. Cage, who bought the home in 2002, tried to sell it six months later, after complaining about water intrusion and flooding.

The Bangkok Dangerous star and his real estate team are being investigated for allegedly concealing facts about the property.

In the past, The Hollywood Reporter writes celebrity depositions have been used by the media to mock celebrities, and expose otherwise-private elements of their personal lives.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Rolf Treu said he would put Cage’s legal claims for privacy up for consideration, and will issue a ruling by the Dec. 7 court date.
