Rob Ford’s big day

Toronto Mayor Rob Ford will find out how much time he has left in office on Wednesday morning at 10 a.m.

680 News reports Ford’s request for a stay of the removal order will be announced at 10 a.m. at Osgoode Hall’s Divisional Court. Fighting against an ouster for violating the Municipal Conflict of Interest Act, Ford’s legal team has argued that his case should be tried on appeal, set for Jan. 7.

If Ford is not granted a stay by the court, he will be forced to leave office on or before Dec. 10. Deputy mayor Doug Holyday will temporarily assume mayoral responsibilities for the city until council appoints a candidate, or sets a date for a byelection.

Canadian company bans poinsettias from its largest Ont. Office

Season’s greetings, good human resources, or both? Bell Canada has banned holiday poinsettias at its large Mississauga office due to one worker’s allergies.

The employee in question could have a life-threatening reaction to the residue of the seasonal flower, activating a building-wide ‘no plant policy,’ which had not yet been enforced.

An internal memo warned 6,000 employees of “random inspections for poinsettias and other plants,” while another, from the property manager Nexacor, wrote, “Any plants found after Dec. 21 will be removed and disposed of without further notification.”

Three interconnected buildings at the Creekbank office building will impose this ban. The employee in question has worked for Bell for 30 years, and recently transferred from a Scarborough call center, where the poinsettia prohibition was also in play.

Michael ‘Kramer’ Richards’ TV return

Kramer’s back! … Kind of. Seinfeld funnyman Michael Richards will star opposite Kirstie Alley and Rhea Pearlman in the new TVLand comedy pilot Giant Baby.

The Hollywood Reporter confirms the comedy, which revolves around a Broadway star (Alley) who reconnects with her long-lost son after her adopted mother dies. Pearlman is slated to play Alley’s best friend and assistant.

This will be Richards’ first big project since his controversial Nov. 2006 rant at the Laugh Factory. He last appeared in guest roles on Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee and Curb Your Enthusiasm.
