Danzig Street murder charges
Toronto police have charged an 18-year-old man with two counts of first-degree murder in the Danzig Street shootings.
Shaquan Mesquito, AKA “Bam Bam,” was also charged with one count of attempted murder, reckless discharge of a firearm and 23 counts of aggravated assault for the wounded victims of the July 16 shooting, which left two people dead. The suspect also has ties to the Malvern gang.
According to the Toronto Star, Mesquito has been in custody since July 27, and was originally arrested and charged with uttering threats, and possessing a .22 calibre revolver.
Toronto Police Staff Insp. Greg McLane explained at Thursday’s news conference that he was not able to disclose details about the case, but that these recently-revealed charges came from forensics, tips from the public and “dogged determination” from investigators.
Harper plays hockey with girls in India
NHL lockout, what’s that? Stephen Harper played a game of hockey with a group of teenage girls in India on Friday morning, just because.
The prime minister got some tips on how to play cricket earlier in the day, and ran around a ball hockey court at the Bishop Cotton Boys’ School. CityNews reports hundreds of students and teachers gathered around the court to watch Harper “play ball.”
This pick-up hockey game was one of Harper’s last stops on his six-day tour of India. The PM will head to the Philippines and Hong Kong next.
Mark Wahlberg in Transformers 4?
Mark Wahlberg will star in Transformers 4, after a longstanding internet campaign to get him on board.
The Ted star previously worked with director Michael Bay on the upcoming crime movie Pain and Gain.
“Mark is awesome,” said Bay about their bromance, as quoted in Entertainment Weekly. “We had a blast working on Pain and Gain and I’m so fired up to be back working with him. An actor of his caliber is the perfect guy to re-invigorate the franchise and carry on the Transformers‘ legacy.”
Last week, the franchise helmer denied reports that Wahlberg was set to take the lead role from Shia Labeouf, saying he was instead considering the Boston-bred star for another film series. But, if SNL’s Mark Wahlberg Talks to Animals parody has taught us anything, its that the star’s rapport with animals could certainly translate to a giant robot named Bumblebee.
