According to 680 News, Walmart Canada and Mattel Canada have set up a new virtual store at Brookfield Place in the PATH Walkway – the underground tunnel that connects many of Toronto’s downtown buildings.
The PATH store features two walls with images of products like doll houses, toy trucks, and race care tracks. Using a smartphone app, shoppers can scan a code beneath the product they would like to purchase and, once it’s paid for, the product will be delivered to their home.
According to Melissa Chau, brand manager for Mattel Canada, both companies have high hopes for the virtual store. “The objective was to provide an easy holiday shopping experience for the tech-savvy, time-crunched commuters that are going to and from Toronto every day.”
This marks the second time a virtual store has come to Canada. The first, started by Well.ca, occupied the same part of the PATH walkway, and was covered by the Toronto Standard’s Michael Kolberg. The store sold health and baby products and, according to the company, was responsible for some of the strong growth that Well.ca experienced in the past year. [680 News]
