NXNE has announced the lineup for their first year of art events, with a bit of something to satisfy almost every person’s artistic preferences. Highlights from the announcement include Toronto based artist Johannes Zits’s Looking for Guides to An Alternative, which will involve the artist weaving cut up business suits and displaying them throughout the city’s Financial District; Gabriele Galimberti’s Toy Stories, a photo exhibition of images taken of children throughout the world with their toys; and Brendan de Montigney’s I Am a Human Printer, in which the artist will instantly create unique images of members of the audience. Other headliners of the Art fest include Nils Volker and his installation Eighty Eight, Montreal artists Alison Moore and Jasa Baka will be showing their visual epic poetry flick, Smile Stealers, and Ulu Braun will be making some of his signature landscape video collages to be played at night.
But that’s not all that will be happening as part of NXNE Art. There will be a two day outdoor art fair in Ryerson Quad, graffiti and street art by artists like Gary Taxali and Ron English beautifying construction zones throughout downtown, as well as TTC video screens displaying visual art works and even streetcars playing host to interactive pieces (we shall see how well that goes…).
NXNE is being held June 10-16. For the complete lineup of artists, check out the official NXNE Art page.
