Slightly late to the game, animal rights group PETA is taking a stand against the violent and oppressive relationship between the fictional Pokémon characters and their equally fictional trainers.
With the upcoming North American release of Pokémon Black and White 2, PETA has created Pokémon Black and Blue, a parody game filled with blood and violence in which Pokémon characters rise up against their trainers in a battle for liberation.
“We believe that this is the message that should be sent to children,” says PETA’s website. “The amount of time that Pokémon spend stuffed in pokéballs is akin to how elephants are chained up in train carts, waiting to be let out to ‘perform’ in circuses.”
PETA has also been responsible for parody games such as Super Tofu Boy, Mario Kills Tanooki and a take on Cooking Mama. PETA also fought unsuccessfully for a ban on baby seal clubbing in World of Warcraft and protested Battlefield 3 over cruelty to rats and Call of Duty over cruelty to dogs in their continuous struggle over fictional injustices.
