Toronto fans of TLC’s Say ‘Yes’ to the Dress will no longer have to cross the border to shop in the show’s setting, the now famous Kleinfeld Bridal salon. Kleinfeld Bridal is set to open its first Canadian location right here in the city at the flagship Hudson’s Bay store at Queen and Bay, in early 2014. The Kleinfeld inside The Bay will function like other specialty shops within the department store (think Topshop, which launched shops in HBC last year), but will be almost double the size of the norm at 20,000 square feet — all the better to seduce you with wedding miscellany like crystal veils and satin belts.
Currently the Hudson’s Bay Company is at the forefront of wedding registry retail in Canada, but doesn’t sell the ivory gowns for the big day. A collaboration with Kleinfeld Bridal is sure to keep The Bay ahead of the pack in the country even as the competition amps up their game like with the arrival of Target, and Sears gaining momentum in wedding retail.
Now for what you really want to know: what’s the least I can pay to get the Kleinfeld-wedding-dress-shopping experience? While dresses in the States typically range from $2,000 to $30,000, their Canadian counterparts will start closer to $1,500. But for those of you just itching to drop some dineros, Kleinfeld also does custom dresses, one of which holds the title of the store’s most expensive dress ever at $80,000, complete with an Austrian crystal encrusted 20-foot train (and considering what gypsy brides spend on their gowns, it may have been one of theirs — but that’s a topic for another TLC show)
