This is What a CGI Inspector Gadget Looks Like
Go-Go-Gadget reboot!

Nostalgia Alert: Teletoon is bringing everyone’s second favourite cyborg detective* back to television. Inspector Gadget is back with an updated-yet-faithful CGI look and a host of “all new gadgets.” Brain the police dog and Inspector-in-training Penny are along for the ride to take down the nefarious Dr. Claw and contend with “Dr. Claw’s evil-genius (and totally crush-worthy) nephew.” No mention if this new iteration of Penny is also Gadget’s niece, as she was in the original series.

Sidebar Conspiracy Theory: Could Penny have been unmade Gadget’s niece to avoid any complications – vis a vis family reunions – should she and Claw’s brilliant hunky nephew become romantically involved?

Teletoon’s Inspector Gadget reboot was among the network’s slate of new and returning programming announced this week at the Banff World Media Festival, where the Canadian cartoon channel is a sponsor of the Kids and Animation program. In a release, Teletoon says they have ordered 26 eleven minute episodes of the Canadian series from DHX Media, whose other kids’ series include Caillou and Arthur.

*Blade Runner’s Rick Deckard, obviously. (I know, I know, Replicants are androids and the distinction is very important.)

UPDATE: A spokesperson from Teletoon confirmed via email that Penny is in fact still Inspector Gadget’s niece, so consider my theory debunked. But can you imagine if Penny and Dr. Claw’s nephew got together! Think of the situational comedy!
