Hudson Wrestles a Tire
He may still be a cub at only 15 months old, but it’s time for Hudson the Polar Bear to leave the nest. Hudson will be flown to Winnipeg the week of January 28th, to fill the shoes of Assiniboine Park Zoo’s last polar bear, Debby, who held the title of world’s oldest living captive polar bear when she passed away in 2008.
Born at the Toronto Zoo in October 2011, Hudson was rejected by his mother and raised solely by zoo staff until he was 3 months old. Despite his rough start, Hudson is now a happy handful for Toronto Zoo keepers, who recount attention getting antics that include literally screaming for them to play with him. Toronotonians can see for themselves how far Hudson’s come from his tiny beginnings until January 27th.
Hudson’s move to the Assiniboine Zoo will give him an opportunity to breed, which he does not have here in Toronto. The zoo’s recently renovated International Polar Bear Conservation Centre is also considered the best in the world at present and will be Hudson’s new home until he becomes the star of Assiniboine’s Journey to Churchilll 4-hectare arctic animal exhibit, set to open in 2014.
