A Selection of Offendors. Image via I Hope Your Bag is Comfortable Asshole
Are you the type of person that likes to sprawl out and make yourself comfortable on your morning commute? Well you may want to re-think your strategy. A new website I Hope Your Bag is Comfortable Asshole has set its sights on shaming greedy seat hogs. We’ve all experienced the TTC rider who places the comfort of their bag, feet, skateboard, hat, ahead of that of their fellow transit-takers. Last year, one angry rider even took his video of a TTC employee committing his very own crime against common courtesy to the Toronto Sun.
While there is no “rule” against taking up more space than is your due, something needs to be done about this annoying habit as Toronto’s population grows and trains and busses become increasingly crowded. The site’s creator, former Toronto Standard contributor Michael Takasaki, is taking the matter on by collecting and posting photos and commentary on the perpetrators. “I get a lot of comments like, “Why don’t you just ask them to move their bags so you can sit down?” The onus shouldn’t be on me to make you stop being an asshole; the onus should be on you to not be an asshole in the first place,” said Takasaki in an email.
Offenses on the site range from somewhat-forgivable (cute dogs on seats are hard to be angry about), to disgusting (keep your shoes on please), and if the site does nothing to solve this persistent problem, at least it will give take the edge off your anger as you passive-agressively hover over the suitcase sitting comfortably on the seat in front of you.
