ZOMBIES! Did we get your attention? As the subject of many popular films and television programs, zombies are a great way to attract eyeballs. That seems to be the approach Pembina Institute is taking to get the Greater Toronto and Hamilton region thinking about transit expansion and the requisite funding. The idea here is that commuting in the GTHA is so brutal and mind-numbing that it is turning people into zombies. “Rapid Transit: It’s a no-brainer,” reads the tagline. We couldn’t agree more.
The video leads to StopTheZombieMaddness.com, which is just a fancy landing page that links to the official site for Metrolinx’s The Big Move, CivicAction’s Your32.com and the Toronto Region Board of Trade’s LetsBreakTheGridlock.com. For transit debate neophytes, there is a lot of information on those sites that explains what’s being proposed and why we need it. But for those already well versed in what’s at stake, this is just one more reminder about how many people agree that we can’t afford to do nothing, lest we start ripping each other limb from limb.
