American comedian Nick Kroll has delivered a crushing parody of DeGrassi on his new show that will have you squirting milk out your nose by the bag. ‘Wheels Ontario,’ which debuted last night on the series premiere of Kroll Show on Comedy Central (Comedy Network in Canada), rips on the extremely earnest teen soap and Canada’s gentle spirit in general. It tells the story of Mikey, a plucky grade 9 student from Saskatoon trying to get by on his first day at a new school in Toronto, where people don’t tuck in their blouses. Watch it now because we need to talk about it.
Sure, some of the jokes are corny and based on silly stereotypes, but it’s the dedication to that phoney stereotype and layering one dumb Canadian reference on top of another that makes it work. I wonder if Drake has seen it?
Part 2 hasn’t been posted to YouTube, but Canadian viewers can watch it on The Comedy Network website.
