Despite being a confident consumer of the internet, the first time I played “A Google-a-Day,” I freaked out a bit. Faced with just the stark image of the Google search bar and some random word puzzle (eg. “You invite a chromotherapist over for dinner, but while fixing the meal you cut your hand. Would your guest treat you with hex triplet #0000FF or hex triplet #FF0000?”) I was like “whoa” and the clock kept on ticking and I kept trying to control my breathing. I closed the window quickly (and sheepishly) and tried to forget that I’d ever discovered it in the first place. But puzzles are hard to forget. A beacon had taken refuge in the right hand corner of my eye, and I kept thinking about how much of a pussy I was for being overwhelmed by a Google game.
Today’s the day I’ve decided to go back. I’ll see all y’all at MENSA meetings in a couple months.
“A Google-a-Day” is perfect for fans of puzzle games like Cryptic Crosswords and Room Escape.
