To save you time, here’s five can’t miss acts for Friday night at Canadian Music Week, which runs from March 21-25

BADBADNOTGOOD

From: Toronto, Ontario

Playing: Wrongbar (1279 Queen St. West), 12 a.m.

About: Have you ever wanted to see a mosh pit at a jazz show? If you have, then up-and-coming Toronto trio (and this week’s NOW Magazine cover subjects BADBADNOTGOOD are the band for you. According to their Twitter, there’s a good chance you’ll hear new songs from the group’s upcoming BADBADNOTGOOD2 mixtape.

CLOUD NOTHINGS

From: Cleveland, Ohio

Playing: Lee’s Palace (529 Bloor St. West), 12 a.m.

About: Their name might sound twee, but there’s absolutely nothing precocious about Pitchfork-approved Cloud Nothings. After playing several high-profile shows at SXSW last week, the quartet bring their lo-fi garage rock to Lee’s Palace with Kingston’s PS I Love You also on the bill. Bring earplugs.

LUNICE

From: Montreal, Quebec

Playing: Wrongbar (1279 Queen St. West), 1 a.m.

About: Deftly moving between drum & bass, 8-bit electronica and hip-hop, Lunice has produced songs for the likes of Azealia Banks and G-Side, not to mention put out remixes on labels including Mad Decent, XL Recordings, and Young Turks. Also he occasionally dances like this at shows.

SHEEZER

From: Toronto, Ontario

Playing: Sneaky Dee’s (431 College St.), 3 a.m.

About: What better way to wind down your Friday night than by catching Toronto’s all-female Weezer cover band Sheezer at Sneak’s? For a taste of what you can expect, you can download the band’s New Year’s Eve set at the El Mocambo here. Get there early to avoid disappointment.

SPOEK MATHAMBO

From: Johannesburg, South Africa

Playing: The Great Hall (1087 Queen St. West), 11 p.m.

About: So far in his career, rapper/singer Spoek Mathambo has reworked Joy Division’s “She’s Lost Control” as a dark dance track, recorded a debut album that merges various genres with lyrics about the trials and tribulations he faced growing up in South Africa, and signed to Sup Pop. One to watch.
