Canadians are becoming less likely to own a BlackBerry, according to a new survey.
The survey conducted by J.D Power and Associates, found RIM’s share of the Canadian smart phone market has fallen from 42 per cent to 33 per cent over the past year.
However, they are still found in first place.
The iPhone has 30 per cent of the market share at 30 per cent, while phones using Google’s Android operating system, have 13 per cent of the market.
The survey also found that 54 per cent of mobile phones users in Canada now own a smart phone – a jump from 36 per cent last year.
“The market is really changing. Whether it’s texting, or web browsing, or using apps, people are really using their phones for a lot more,” said J.D. Power’s Adrian Chung.
A report from Bloomberg and market research firm IDC found that the BlackBerry had slipped to second place in sales behind the iPhone, knocking RIM out of top spot in Canada for the first time.
