Collector's Edition: Sequins
Fight the disco ball for sparkly supremacy

In honour of Sir Elton John appearing at Holt Renfrew on Saturday (more on that later) and performing at Fashion Cares 25 last night, today’s Collector’s Edition celebrates his stage costumes of decades past. Known for being over-the-top and flamboyant, the 65-year-old John has toned it down in recent years but still holds sequins in a special place in his heart. Case in point: while wearing a demure black suit on Saturday, it was paired with a sparkled pink dress shirt.

1. One part Jackie O, one part Cher. (3.1 Phillip Lim sequined silk jacket, $350)

2. The next best thing to chasing down a peacock and asking nicely for a feather. (MG Collection antique beaded sequin turquoise sunburst clutch, $30)

3. These shoes will be fighting the disco ball for dance floor supremacy. (Republic irregular choice sequin ankle boots, $135)

4. Since the top of this dress resembles an armour breast plate, I imagine people will move from your path. (Fashion Union black sequin peplum jersey dress, $50)

5. For those of you who like to stick a toe in first. (Forever 21 sequined bow hair clips, $3)

6. Just hear me out. I have these in gold and they go with everything. Almost. Sort of. Whatever, they’re amazing. (Topshop silver sequin shorts, $47)

7. I call this the Janelle Monae effect. (Dolce & Gabbana sequined blazer, $1,315)

8. Paired with black slacks and a plain black blazer, this is practically sedate. (Fashion Union gold sequined bra top, $20)

9. My ideal skirt for tea…with Grace Jones. (Temperley London sequined silk-chiffon skirt, $2,790)
