With Mother’s Day fresh on my mind (because I have a mother, not because I am one), I think of my annual promise to take my mom for high tea at the illustrious Windsor Arms Hotel. Granted, it’s less about wanting to sip tea ever-so-delicately in a swanky Toronto landmark than it is about wanting to channel Holly Golightly. As soon as I make good on that promise, this is what I’ll wear.
1. Nothing says ‘old Hollywood glamour’ like a pair of white cotton gloves. Wrist or opera length are wearer’s choice. (Valentino 50th Anniversary Gloves, $680)
2. Sunglasses are for any occasion, but keep the vibe alive with a pair that has a slightly cat-eye shape to them. (Retrosuperfuture Peacock Retro Lucia Liberty Print Sunglasses, $210)
3. A ladylike clutch is the perfect accessory for afternoon tea. I suggest you get one that you can squeeze a few crumpets into. (Valextra Isis Gioiella Mini Clutch, $1,320)
4. What could be better than a ‘tea length’ skirt for this occasion? (Two If By Tea Dress, $150)
5. One of the most iconic pieces of the Golightly costume was her hat. You’ll practically glide through the room with a gauzy swash of fabric following your every move. (Borsalino ‘Audrey’ Silk Georgette Hat, $790)
6. Daintily removing your gloves might just be better than actually wearing them. (Greenwich Jewelers, $2,250)
7. Back in the day, socialites would ring a little bell when they were ready for a refill. These days, just raise your hand and let your shiny bangles do the work. (Peace Bomb Bracelets, $40)
8. Kick your outfit up a notch with kitten heels that contrast with your dress. (Jimmy Choo Aurora Suede Kitten Heel Pumps, $525)
