Toronto loves the rain. With the storm settling in and the forecast calling at least four more days, we’ve got no choice but to push through in hopes of weather bearing ANY resemblance to summer next week. Luckily, Toronto’s got us covered with the weekend bringing a barrage of cool things to do, see, and eat. So pull up your rain-bootstraps, wash the memories off the sidewalk of life and make some new ones at one of this weekend’s sunny events:
Summerlicious 2013
Come hell or high water, we’re still hungry:
Foodies, it’s time. Summerlicious is back and has delicately prepared a fine list of three-course, fixed price menus at 195 at restaurants all over the city. Brace for mouth-watering #foodstagrams on your newsfeed as Summerlicious gets us to post pics with the hashtag #LiciousTO. The two-week fest is jam-packed with great deals, so be sure to check availability make reservations in advance to beat your neighbours to the table. Let’s eat!

Pop-Up Parkdale Flea Market
In my wet paint drippin shinin like my 24s (umbrella):
Parkdale found out that the Junction and Leslieville had flea markets and got jealous. They called up 50 of their closest local artisans and are throwing together an awesome one-day flea market, with booths setting up in and around the Goodfellas Gallery. Come check out antique, vintage, collectables and designer goods at the Parkdale Flea: dogs are welcome and everyone’s invited to indulge in food and drinks from one of the many vendors.

Corso Italia Street Festival

St Clair transforms into Italy this weekend as the merchants of Corso Italia present their annual street festival and sidewalk sale. They’ll be endless food vendors, wine, cheese, and shopping open with Italian crafts and creations. Live entertainment includes performances from Cobra Kings, Mississauga Big Band Jazz Ensemble, Of Gentlemen and Cowards, and more. SteamWhistle will be running a beer tent and local Italian grandmothers will be on site to insist you eat more. You’ll happily oblige.
When: July 5th, 6th, and 7th

Family Fishing Festival
Teach a man to fish, and he’ll eat for a weekend:
License to fish? You don’t need one. Province of Ontario lets us fish without a license for one week ever year, and it’s coming up July 6-14. City of Toronto is using this window to throw a Fishing Fest complete with fun for the whole fam: face painting, family games, and environmental education. The festival is going down at two locations, High Park and Centre Island. If you’re coming down to the Island, be sure to register in advance (Event code: 2198905). The festival is sponsored by Toronto Parks, Forestry and Recreation, in cooperation with the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority, Toronto Urban Fishing Ambassadors, Ontario Chinese Anglers Association, Canadian National Sportsmen’s Shows, Ontario’s Ministry of Natural Resources and the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters.
When: Saturday, July 6 from 10am-3pm and Sunday, July 7 from 10:30am-1:30pm

Henri Fabergé Feint of Hart: Punk-Rock Opera
“Man-on-man as a contingency plan is a standard lesson in lessening excessive genital repression…”:
You were probably thinking of trying to find a two-part punk rock opera this weekend. You’re in luck. Toronto performer Henri FabergĂ© presents an original soundtrack for this epic com-dram, exploring power, rock, and sex as a young aristrocrat comes of age in an Draconian Edwardian society. The TO production combines improv comedy, scripted theatre, multimedia performances, a show-within-a-show cabaret, and new guests every night. There’s only 25 tickets for every show, so get yours ASAP if you want in on this experience.
When: Part 1: July 4, 5 at 8pm and 6, 7, 12, 13, 14 at 7pm, and Part II: July 10, 11 at 8pm and 6, 7, 12, 13, 14 at 7pm
