After surviving the explosion that killed Sunday Times journalist Marie Colvin and French photographer Rémi Ochlik, le Figaro’s Edith Bouvier has turned to the Internet to spread the word about an urgent evacuation she needs from Homs, Syria after badly injuring her leg. The region has been under constant attack for more than 20 days.
Translated by the Guardian, in the video she says:
“I have a broken leg. The femur is broken along its length and laterally too. I need to undergo surgery as soon as possible. The doctors here have treated us as well as they could but they can’t perform surgery. So I need a ceasefire and an ambulance or car in good enough shape to get us out.”
A doctor follows stipulating “Edith needs medical care we don’t have. [And] mostly we are afraid of clotting which may cause her body to shock. She should be out of here immediately to have suitable medical care.”
The lobby for a ceasefire in Syria has been recently requested on an international level, as the conflict continues with no end in sight and civilian casualties rise.
Following Colvin’s death French President Nicolas Sarkozy called the death an “assasination” and called for the end Bashar al-Assad’s Assad regime. French Foreign Minister Alain Juppé says that the Damascus embassy will provide shelter to any victims like Bouvier with support from the International Red Cross… If they can get there.
