Canadians tend to be good tippers, but certain tourists don’t return the favour. The Tipping Etiquette World Map by mintlife.com explains the protocol and customary amounts one should leave according to country, breaking down the information to what percentage, if any, one should tip. The U.S. tip the best (I think the graph is biased), with Canada coming in close behind with a customary 15-20%; in China, Japan, South Korea and other Asia countries, there is no need to tip at all, unless of course you feel the service is exceptional and you can’t resist opening your wallet. According to this graph, visitors to France needn’t tip, but French nationals should. Although, as Parisian waiters tend to look down their noses at everybody, you’ll never know whether they’re really offended or not.
