John Tory has invited Olivia Chow and David Soknacki to join his administration.
“Olivia and I had a brief conversation last night, obviously on the phone. And I’ve obviously said some things publicly, which I meant — which is that I would like to find a way for both of them to participate in some way,” he told the Star.
The mayor-elect has also said that he would welcome Karen Stintz on his team. It’s not clear yet what role each individual would take on if they were to say yes to Tory.
Even if it’s simply a PR move on Tory’s part, it’s a smart one. Tory said throughout his campaign that he wanted to find a way to mend the divisions that had characterized the Ford administration. This appears to be a step in the right direction. If he does follow through on the promise, the city has much to gain from such a coalition.
