Tom Hanks is a treasure. You know this. He is a special man. Clearly. Whether he is winning Emmys (Emmies?) or taping his just-won Emmy to the hood of his car, everything he does is newsworthy. That’s why is should come as no surprise that The Best Thing on the Internet Today is something that Tom Hanks did. What may surprise you is that this top internet thing was made using something that is the opposite of the Internet. Irony? Yes.
Chris Hardwick, he of the sprawling Nerdist Industries podcasts, etc. empire, sent Mr. Tom Hanks a 1934 Smith Corona silent typewriter in hopes of enticing the “Voice of Woody” to appear on an episode of The Nerdist. Tom Hanks, a lover and collector of typewriters was so taken with the “great action” of the vintage word processor that he accepted the invitation and RSVP’d with this cutesy type-written note. He even kept his word and did the interview. What a helluva guy. Now, if he could just get his son Chester aka Chet Haze to settle down and take his life a little more seriously, all would be well in Hanksville.
